So I like to face traffic when I am out running. This way, it’s easier to see and react to what’s coming. Last Saturday morning was no different. And as I approached a certain stretch, I noticed that the shoulder of the road was quite narrow and uneven, filled with loads of stones. I was contemplating whether to stay on the same side or cross the road when I spotted a man up ahead of me. He was holding a little girl’s hand [about 5-6 year-old] and they were walking on the same side. I reasoned that if the man and his daughter were walking on the rough patch, I could run successfully. However, the  surface became very uneven with different shapes and sizes of stones. Looking ahead I began to wonder how the girl was managing to walk on such rough surface; and as if the man read my mind, he picked up the girl and put her on his shoulder as he continued walking along.

And in that moment I remembered the old write-up “Footprints in the sand”. When there were two sets of footprints, it was God walking with the writer; and when there was one set, God was carrying her along a difficult patch. Looking at the man carrying his daughter over the rough patch, that interpretation became so clear and it made a lot of sense. God carries us through difficult periods. If you’re going through a rough patch, be encouraged that the Lord is carrying you through it, and he will make a way and see you through. His name be praised.
