So, periodically my American siblings visit us, Kenyan Chapter, and it is always a blast. There are a few things that are aways on our to-do-list while they are on the ground. One of them is eating KFC and pizza together. You see, growing up in our childhood days, this was our Sunday treat that we took very seriously. We would come back home from church and our dad would take us out to buy KFC and pizza for lunch, and we would always take it out and come back home to feast. Currently, individually neither one of us is crazy about KFC nor eat it frequently, but when we are together this is a must do for old-time’s sake. At the beginning of their visit, Emma and Linda express a desire to eat the Kenyan KFC, which it a lot different and “saner” that their American one. Linda wants to have it immediately, but Mona and I remind her that we do it as a team, and she should wait until we are all together. She agrees.
As time passes by, we somehow want to eat other food items more than we do KFC and this gets forgotten. On the day of their departure, I am in the office that morning and recall that we never did have our family KFC/pizza treat like we always do. Also, we somehow do spend our final day together which has been a good day to have this treat. This time however, the girls are leaving in the middle of the week. This means that The Piggies are in school, Rony and I are at work, and Mona is attending a function in her honor… and the final get-together is not happening. Since Linda hasn’t brought it up again, I assume she has forgotten and decide to let it pass and not remind her 😆.
Their flight is in the late night and so I can work all day before seeing them off. The first thing Linda says when I get home is “…so much for Kenyan KFC…” I laugh out loud, seeing that she clearly hadn’t forgotten and tellof my earlier assumption 🤣. I do a quick math… Westgate has a KFC shop, and there is a drive through outlet on Woodvale Lane as well, either venue is not far from us. I can drive to Woodvale Lane or walk to Westgate to get Lin her treat. At that time of the evening, I think I will get stuck in traffic and decide to walk to Westgate.
Now, since Westgate revived many years back, I have gone mostly to Carrefour, the bowling alley and the Mini something shop, all of which are located in ‘new’ wing of the Mall. I mostly use the escalator on that end as well. Today, seeing that I am going to KFC in the ‘old’ wing, I decide to use the stairway to get a better workout. This is something I did a lot back in the day before Westgate went down. I circle the area where the stairs should be and thinking that I must’ve missed it I go a second round before I realize that there are no stairs. I am so puzzled and take the escalator to try again on the first floor. And I confirm that indeed, there are no stairs because there is a glass wall surrounding an empty space where the stairs used to be. After all these years, how did I not see this? How am I just now realizing this, and I am deeply puzzled! Then again, I have been on the ‘new’ wing and it’s no wonder I haven’t realized this before. Anyway, I proceed to KFC and buy the meal.
If you have followed my posts then you will know that I have zero sense of direction lol. As I am coming down the escalator in the ‘old’ wing, seeing that I am now on unfamiliar territory [old wing] I see the new Decathlon shop ahead of me and I am even more puzzled that Westgate moved a whole big shop to the other end of the Mall! How and when did they do this? I am looking on at this enigma and I cannot for the life of me figure out why Westgate would make such a huge change, shortly after opening the shop no less. Did they not do a proper assessment of it’s location in the first place to avoid incurring such costs in relocating the shop? I am on the ground floor at this point and decide to mind my own business. Relocated shops is not one of them 😆. I walk towards the exit back to the street and after a while I see Carrefour in front of me! WHAT??? They couldn’t have relocated a WHOLE supermarket, surely!!! And anyway, I was in the said supermarket a couple of days earlier so there is NO WAY this happened so soon. I stop and take in my bearing, slowly making a 360º turn… and realize that I am going in the opposite direction to where I should be going!!! OMGoodness 🤣😂🤣!!! No wonder Decathlon appears to have been relocated 😝. I literally burst out laughing, how did I lose my bearing, in a shopping mall that I frequent, no less. As I walk back to the real exit, the shops start to make sense, especially Decathlon. I am laughing so hard in disbelief as I exit the Mall! WHAT???
I get back home, Linda is so surprised at how fast I got back, seeing that I walked to the Mall. I do not tell her about my adventures… Laughter for days!
