So, last week I came home to a new security guard who looked vaguely familiar. After locking the gate he came to my car very excited. Greeted me heartily and started telling me how he’d been and that he was standing in for our regular dude who was unwell. Went on to tell me about his family being well except he’d just lost an aunty etc. He was surprised I still hadn’t moved; he was sure I wouldn’t be there [what did he know about my place that I didn’t???]. All this time I was removing stuff from my car and wondering just how friendly and chatty this chap was. You know how when someone whispers to you, you respond with a whisper? I returned the favor and chatted heartily with enthusiasm, while wondering about his level of excitement. Mmmhh… He helped carry my bags to my house and remained respectfully at the door as I took things in. “Strange!”, I thought.Â
Next morning when leaving he waved me off as heartily and it was in that moment that a bell went off! “Aha! Pushups dude LOL!” You see, several months back I came in after a 13km run. He was standing in for our regular dude. He told me I needed to do pushups to complete my workout. For me, he said just 5 would be great. So I told him 5 were nothing, I could do 20 but I was just tired and besides; the car park was dirty so I wouldn’t do it. He laughed in disbelief and said if I could 20 he would do 25. He disappeared and returned with a mat, telling me I had no excuse. He kept chuckling, what I read as “Yeah, right! 20 pushups? Tsk tsk” So, I assumed the position and did 30 effortlessly, much to his amazement. Now he was pacing back and forth, saying he couldn’t believe I just did 30 pushups! I asked him to do 35; he’d brought it on LOL. He did: shaking, pausing and breathing hard, and with great difficulty he did 31. He wasn’t letting a girl beat him. He flopped down at 31, rested and stood up, proudly telling me that he’d done 31, 1 more than me heheheh. I conceded defeat and congratulated him :). As I walked away he told me how impressed he was by me, he’d gained a new found respect for me, he said :). Back to the present, no wonder he’d greeted me like a long lost friend! We had done a fitness challenge together LOL!
